Who is looking forward to the bank holiday on Monday?…

Not only do I get a free day off, but I’ve also snuck in two more days off, so a five-day weekend is heading my way (internally screaming).  Does my boss know I’m not in? No…Am I looking forward to his reaction when he realises I’m not at my desk? Hell yes (even though I won’t be there to see it…shh).

What are your plans for the bank holiday weekend? 


How many of you are always up for trying the latest diet trends?

How many of you feel like you’re constantly on a diet?

How many of you feel like giving up because you’ve tried everything, but nothings working?

Let me ask you this then…are you being completely honest with yourself?

I have been trying to stay healthy and make good lifestyle choices, but in my mind I know I could’ve been that little bit better. I can empathise with how difficult it can be to find foods that are interesting and tasty. No matter how many products are brought out onto our supermarket shelves and make health benefit claims, they always seem a bit too green for me…not very appealing.

What’s the next step?

For some people, the gym is not an option, but if it is, then even by going once or twice a week it 1. is more than you were doing before and 2. is a great starting point to build up from. If you hate the thought of sweating and working out in front of people then I highly recommend connecting your computer to your TV or getting the YouTube app on your TV. Why? The amount of exercise videos on there are insane. There’s no need for you to go out and buy one of these cringe DVD’s made my a ‘celebrity’ that used a PT to get fitter.

What do I recommend?

I personally, from experience find that HIIT work outs are the most effective.

HIIT is a training technique which involves intense bursts of high-intensity exercise followed by varied periods of low-intensity active rest, or complete rest. HIIT can be a great option for staying in shape when time is an issue, as you can get an amazing fat-burning workout in 20 minutes or less.

So, if you want to get great results from only a short work out, then this is the one for you. I have been doing the Joe Wicks (Body Coach) one which is available on YouTube.

Don’t feel bad about having a cheat day!

Everyone needs a balanced diet to function. Depriving yourself of the foods that contain higher fat percentages is actually more likely to make you gain weight when you may have them in the future. Maintenance is key! Having a day where you eat some ‘bad’ foods keeps your body used to digesting them. Remember, calories are your energy source, cutting them low and limiting your intake is damaging.

I have a cheat day every Saturday because it’s the first day I’m not at work so there’s nothing to distract me from snacking…unless I’m shopping. Allowing myself this day then curbs my cravings for sugary, fatty, salty treats. Do I feel better for it? Yes actually, I don’t get that guilt after eating a doughnut, or half a bar of chocolate because of the good work I’ve done all week.


 

Moral: If you feel like there’s no where left to turn, go back a few steps and see what could be changed to alter your path ahead!

Summer Plans

Good morning fellow bloggers!


I’ve been a bit on and off with my posts recently, but I’m still trying to make time for it as regularly as possible. This month is going to be a bit of a whirlwind for me to say the least.


Around December time last year I had surgery on both of my feet, and unfortunately it was unsuccessful (private healthcare doesn’t always mean high standards). SOOOO, in the next few weeks I should be going in on the NHS to have the procedure done again…hopefully for the final time. I’ve not been able to walk properly for around a year and a half now so people have seen me hobbling around like a peg-legged pirate. I would like to be able to call myself a healthy, young individual, but I would be lying. Fingers, toes, arms, legs, eyes crossed….

Onto some good news…

I only have 40 working days left of my placement (not including holiday or weekends). To be able to sit, gather my thoughts and most of all, not have to set a 7:00am alarm every morning will be amazing. For me, the summer before university is always the best. Gathering everything for my year ahead and having no worries for the last time is something I definitely need to make the most of.

What do I plan on getting up to this summer? 

For the most part, I’m unsure, but these are a few things I want to start organising.

Cream fieldsCreamfields is a large British dance music festival featuring DJs and live acts. The first Creamfields was held in 1998 in Winchester, attracting 25,000 people. The festival hosts live performances from Run DMC, Primal Scream and DJ sets from the likes of Daft Punk, Paul van Dyk and Sasha. Many of my friends flock to this festival towards the end of August to let loose before our terms start again. This is a slightly older kind of festival compared to the likes of Reading where many people attending will more than likely be 18 or younger!

This is a great way to let off some steam and just be around your friends for a good time. It feels like you’re on holiday, but you have no shower and sleep in a tent…not as bad as it sounds in reality.

Birthday holiday: Last year, for my 21st birthday I took a trip to Marbella with my boyfriend. However, this year, I want to go on a little girls holiday with a few of my friends. We are yet to decide where to go, but it’s more than likely to be somewhere in Greece…being a student and all we are stereo-typically low on funds 🙂 I think holidays are essential to leave your stress and worries behind you…literally, and after this year, I’m much in need of one…or more.

From Hobby to Business

Good afternoon fellow bloggers!


We all have turned something we love into a routine or part of our live. How do I know this? Well we’re all here right now, blogging out minds away. However, a lot of us don’t earn from it and simply do it for fun and peace.

Do you have any other hobbies?

One of my other hobbies, besides blogging is art. I know some of you may have already seen my work, but here it is again (but smaller).

It’s very well known that artists do not get paid very well unless they’ve hit the big leagues. I wasn’t looking to make drawing or painting a full time job, but I have been looking at ways I can potentially monetise this passion of mine. One of the first things I did was look at all the pieces I had completed, as you can see I like to leave them partially done (was kind of my signature). I then had copies made of those pieces to sell. I currently have one left from the 20 I had printed which isn’t bad going. Having done a few commissions I had a taste for it and wanted to expand my prospects.

How can you turn your hobbies into something more?

Firstly, you obviously need to have a hobby you enjoy doing. Whether that be baking, drawing, sewing, gymming (my new word), whatever it may be, it can be classed as a hobby. Then you need to think about how you can generate something to put to market. So if you like to bake cookies, muffins, cheesecakes, then have a think about possible some new flavours you think people would be interested in. Packaging isn’t expensive and neither is ingredients so it’s low cost and delicious!

If you enjoy making clothing items, have a look at what is already on the market and see if you can come up with a new niche. Maybe lizard hoodies or something I don’t know (don’t judge for that comment please). 

You never know, you might come across a new hit product!

We all want to be doing something we love…right? This is an ideal place to start.


Moral: Finding the right blend of business and pleasure is essential, the next big thing could be right under your nose!

Shout Outs!

It’s finally Friday and I’m buzzing for the weekend! So lets kick off with my first shout out post. Following my previous post I set out to find 10 blogs within my comments that I enjoyed reading and discovering to link within this post (Find it here…). Rather than nominating people for meaningless (in my opinion) awards I have decided that focusing on a more personal level is much more my kind of thing. Here we go:

Kelsey Writess – This is a blogger I very much enjoy engaging with. Her posts are bright, bubbly and uplifting. Everyone needs a bit of excitement in their life so if you’re feeling a bit grey, I advise you to give this one a read!

Cole Camp Fire – This is an all rounder blog. Whatever you’re looking for, however you’re feeling, there’s something for everyone on here. Another uplifting blog from a family is always welcome in my mind!

Walk the Goats – This is a blogger I have recently discovered and engaged with. They find a way to manipulate our words into a thoughtful process. Something I have not come across before, but have very much enjoyed reading!

Curiosity – This is a blog I very much loved delving into. Thought provoking and inspiring for those who enjoy quotes and travelling.

Ardor’s Garden – This is a blog I have not seen before, but has opened my mind to something new. With some lovely poetry and heartfelt posts this is one everyone can enjoy!

Today’s Agenda – With such a range of topics that not only inspire, but also educate, how can you not find something that will interest your mind? Check out this blog and see if you can relate!

Kittyd8 – This bloggers page caught my eye from the bright and pleasing home page they have designed. I always find this kind of imagery so calming and inviting. Their posts flow nicely and are so easy to read, worth checking out!

Reverse Science – Another one for those avid readers out there. If you’re looking to challenge your mind and discover something new then head over to this blog. I’ve opened my eyes to a new intelligence!

Leave Your Links! 300 Followers!

After a week away I’m ready to get back into my writing and can’t wait to share with you all what I’ve been up to!  However, that will have to wait for a few days because…..Today I have reached 300 followers! WOOOOO!

Blogging Awards

Good morning fellow bloggers!


I hope everyone is having a great start to their week, the sun is out here and I’m feeling good. Mainly because I’m off work until next Tuesday, but still I’m buzzing! I think I get more excited about other people’s birthdays than I do my own (my boyfriends on Wednesday). So when I get back from work I’m on balloon blowing up duty and preparing for his arrival tomorrow morning.


Anyway, enough about my personal life. I wanted to talk about something that has been bothering me for a few weeks now about the blogging world. This will be a controversial opinion and I am simply expressing one persons view, but I want to get this out there to clear my mind.

So I’m sure a lot of you will already be aware of the different types of blogging awards that are shared around, but for those who aren’t, here’s a brief summary.

What is a blogging award?

Well, it’s not a physical object that you’re given, it’s a tag which other bloggers link you to as a sign of appreciation for your posts. For example, I have previously been tagged in ‘The leibster blogger award’. This meant that if I were to accept the award I would read the rules within the post of the person who had nominated me and write a post with my answers. In this example, I had to answer 15 questions set by the nominator, tag their blog in my post and then set 15 questions for other bloggers I wanted to nominate for this recognition. A few other examples of blogging awards are :

  • The versatile blogger award
  • The mystery blogger award
  • The sunshine blogger award

…The list goes on.

What is the point of these ‘awards’?

The point of these awards is to give recognition to those blogs that deserve to stand out under an array of topics. From inspiring others, to simply being an awesome new blogger!

To start with I thought oh my god this is amazing, other people are recognising me for my posts and enjoying my content. I felt really good about these in the first month of my journey and I think they are a great boost for those who are just starting out. However, for me…the novelty has worn off. I have been noticing people who are nominating me without even interacting or reading my content (it’s easy to figure out if you check your stats ratios) which then made me think, ‘Are they just looking for a little bit of exposure?’. This may not be the case and I may be over thinking it, but I have to go with my gut on this one and do what’s best for my content.

I wish I didn’t think like this, but I can’t help it and as a result have decided to refrain from posting any more award posts. Don’t get me wrong I’m very happy and appreciative of the bloggers who have previously nominated me for these, but I don’t think they are the kind of posts I want to be sharing with you anymore. I would prefer to focus on my own content prompted by my thoughts and not an ‘award’.


I hope I haven’t offended anyone who may disagree with me, but for those who have nominated me for awards recently and thought ‘why have they not posted mine’, this is why. I’m not saying everyone is looking for exposure because I’m not a big blog and I’m not the most popular one, but there have been one or two that I have picked up on and unfortunately have put me off the concept as a whole.


Sorry to put a little bit of a downer on things, but there we go, these are my feelings and I will do what I have to do to keep myself and my blog as good as it can be. I have made some loyal friends on here and love interacting with them and their posts so my appreciation for blogging is through the roof, but not everything and everyone is perfect.


Moral: You have to do what’s best for you even if that is not respected or agreed with by others.

Wind Down

We’ve reached the end of the week, I’m proud of us!

The other day I made a post about the importance of relaxing and taking time off work to keep our heads in tact…if you didn’t read it and would like to, then you can find it here.

After this week I think I need to take a page out of my own book, without realising it I am so close to a burnout it’s ridiculous. I haven’t had a day off for over a month now, in my industry, if you don’t take time to clear your head, you will probably go insane. So this morning I have made the executive decision to take a half day so I can gather my thoughts and have a bit of down time. It’s been a stressful one I can’t lie. From my boss throwing a heap load of things to do at me, to taking on new responsibilities. A little overwhelming…

Considering I’m a student I still have a lot to learn and whilst I am flattered to be trusted with some bigger responsibility I feel that a line has been crossed and it’s all a bit too much. Unfortunately the partners who own the company I’m working for do not realise that hiring another employee will solve their stress and work load problems. It’s all well and good having lots of jobs coming in, but if you’re accepting them at the expense of your workers well-being, is it really fair and worth it?

Anyway…rant over, lets move onto enjoying the weekend and making the most of the time we have to ourselves. How do you like to wind down?

Having a Large Following

Now don’t let the title fool you. This isn’t some quick fix to getting a load of followers like some people promise, nor is it about me being the most popular blog on WordPress…because I’m most definitely not.


I want to talk about something that has been cropping up quite a lot in various comments I see on both mine and other bloggers posts. This is the somewhat desperation/want to increase ones following, likes and traffic. I understand that some people write their posts purely to see those numbers increase and to make money, but is that the most important thing? In my opinion…no, but others would disagree and I appreciate that.

My main point that may make you feel a bit better about your blog if you fall into this category looks at the real stats. The stats you should be taking notice of are the percentages of your followers who are actually engaging with you and your posts. It’s all well and good having thousands and thousands of followers, but if they don’t actually FOLLOW you then is it really worth it?

I personally follow a few blogs with multiple thousands of followers and there’s two in particular that I see a disparity between. One has close to 6000 and one has close to 8000. The blogger with 6000 has a very loyal, consistent and eager audience where they receive more than 30% of their following interacting, however, I often see the blogger with 8000 receiving less than 5% of their total. Now, this is just from my own observation and I follow blogs because I enjoy reading their content and have made some amazing friends.

When it comes to my own blog, I quite often see more than 20% of my following interacting with my posts which is amazing. Obviously not everyone will be there to comment, like or whatever else, but the fact that as many of you actually do makes me very warm inside!

What I’m trying to say is that it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been blogging or how many followers, visitors, likes, comments and love you receive on your posts. What matters is the people who support you, the content you write is the best you can make it and you enjoy blogging!


Moral: Make decisions for the right reasons, not just to see those figures rise!

The Depths of my Mind

It’s already Wednesday, I don’t even know where the week has gone, but I’m glad its coming to an end and did I mention I have next week off? Because I have next week off and I’m still buzzing! Check out my latest post where I tell you again here.

Here’s another clue as to what I’m up to next week

I’m going to prepare you for this post now so that you don’t judge me, think I’m too weird or an alien or something. So when I was younger I used to come up with some strange conspiracy theories, just in my head, I never told anyone. As none of us know what comes next after life, I would think deeply about some crazy ideas as to what could or would be cool to happen.


To start with, I would think about many different things that might happen to use when we die. I don’t know if this was to make me feel better about the thought or what, but I always felt like my mind works in a very unique way. I felt as if I was in touch with something of a fictional dream. Now I would say that I sound like a nutter, but I’m actually quite sane I promise…bare with me!

I’m going to let you in on one of my many many thought processes. I’m not sure how to even start this sentence, so here it goes, what if when we pass, you can see all the statistics of your life. So for example, how many times you said certain words, what job you were meant to do, who you were meant to marry etc. This is something I used to hope for because how cool would that be? Obviously no one really knows, if you believe in that kind of thing…so maybe I’m right?

Another little thing I used to think about was plumbed into my head by my grandmother. Ever since my granddad passed away she always felt his presence and said that when we need him, he will be there. I somewhat thought she was a nutter as well, until one day, this exotic looking bug attached itself to my bedroom window (there’s not a lot of things that are exotic in Britain). You’re probably thinking, that’s so random what has that got to do with anything?! Now, don’t judge me for this because it’s going to sound a little strange and I don’t know if I even believe it myself. HOWEVER, this bug remained on my window for the next 3 months during my exams. I obviously wasn’t in my room constantly so it probably went away at points for food and stuff, but every time I checked, it was there. In the back of my head, I felt like it was either a watchful eye, or had stepped in some superglue before landing on my window.

To me…it doesn’t matter, I will believe what I want to believe and I will continue to over think this world and life.

Healthy Mind, Healthy Body!

A quick update carrying on from yesterday’s post. So to sum up what’s been going on since one of my family members was diagnosed with cancer… Yesterday she went in for life changing surgery and so far we have heard positive news from the nurses. To be honest my stomach made its way back up to the normal position after it dropped hearing the news last week so it’s looking good at the moment. Onto some more uplifting topics…(slightly) 

If you didn’t already know, I’ve got a week off work next week and I’m absolutely buzzing…yes I’m going to say it everyday until it happens so you’ll just have to deal with it….here’s a clue though….

I find that when I plan to book a day or a few days off work I need to make the most of it as I’m limited on how many I have left to take. However, even if I just fancy a day off I will do it because having that down time where you don’t have to set your alarm, you don’t have to rush in and get bored with your journey every day and most of all you can do whatever you want (within reason) is soooo important

My older brother hasn’t taken a day off in the last four months which, to me is absolutely crazy and I don’t know how he’s still functioning. What I have noticed however, is how his stress levels are now slowly increasing day by day. Sometimes, even if you feel like you’re on top of everything, others will realise the changes before you do. Being stressed at work quite often results in snapping at the small things at home which obviously creates unnecessary tensions between you and your family…not ideal let’s be honest.

How do you deal with the stresses of work life? 

As I said before, taking the days off that you are entitled to are a great start to relieving that pressure so you don’t burn out. I know how it feels to have your boss/bosses looking over you, expecting you to perform above and beyond your job description. Even when you love your job, things can become overwhelming and you must remember, you’re only one person and you know your limits.

It’s completely normal to be a bit stressed after a hard day in the office, but is it fair to take it out on those around you at home? Not really.

Keep your energy levels high! Quite often we can find ourselves in a rut when it comes to diet and exercise. With such little time to prepare a healthy meal, relax, sleep and get back to work it can be so easy to just get a McDonald’s or order in a takeaway. I understand how hard it can be to fit it all in, but I have managed to personally persevere and get into a routine of preparing double the amount for dinner so I have enough for lunch at work the next day. Not only does this take off the pressure and time you would have spent making something in the morning, but you also benefit from that healthy boost midday.

Making sure you get enough sleep is something a lot of people overlook these days. It’s just as important as a healthy diet. Sleep allows your body to regenerate and enable you to start again the next day. Get rid of those shopping bags under your eyes, and YES it does also help with weight loss so I want all of you to go to sleep and shed those pounds!


Moral: Healthy body, healthy mind…It works both ways people! Be smart and go to sleep!
